Taking care of your teeth is the best way to avoid the development of dental cavities. In Bloomington, Illinois, Drs. Mike and Marisa Milligan of Eastland Dental Center, are committed to educating their patients about the negative consequences of dental cavities.
Cavities occur due to the development of plaque, tartar, and bacteria. All of these can eat away at the tooth’s enamel and result in small to large cavities. The sooner cavities are caught, the easier they can be treated. As they get more severe and deeper into the tooth’s structure, they can affect the tooth’s nerves and cause pain and discomfort. In some cases, patients may even need to undergo a root canal to remove the dental pulp and get them comfortable again. However, if cavities are caught in their earlier stages, they are more easily managed by Drs. Mike and Marisa Milligan.
In order to address cavities, Drs. Mike and Marisa Milligan will clean the area and fill it with dental bonding. Filling the tooth keeps the cavity from spreading further and can protect the tooth from further damage. Dental fillings used at Eastland Dental Center are made to match the shade of the patient’s tooth enamel so that it is not nearly as obvious as silver or gold fillings. This is a great way to cosmetically mask the filling and preserve the patient’s beautiful smile.
Drs. Mike and Marisa Milligan take dental health seriously and encourage their patients to maintain good oral hygiene habits in order to avoid the development of dental cavities. Their practice in Bloomington helps by providing the knowledge and education patients need to keep a happy, healthy mouth. Drs. Mike and Marisa Milligan instruct their patients to brush and floss regularly every day and stress the importance of visiting Eastland Dental Center at least twice a year for check-ups, cleanings, and examinations. With the help of the family dentist, patients can experience a healthier smile through the years.
