Drs. Mike Milligan and Marisa Milligan of Eastland Dental Center in Bloomington, IL are dental professionals ready to assist patients with their dental concerns. The team is dedicated to dental health and wellness, as well as enhancing the beauty of smiles. Additionally, they work with patients who are suffering from issues such as obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep disorder that can affect overall health. This medical condition can cause patients to experience a number of issues including poor memory, lack of concentration, daytime fatigue, and an increased risk for conditions such as strokes and heart attacks. Getting a proper diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea and seeking effective treatment are crucial.
At Eastland Dental Center, we provide diagnostics and treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. We start by assigning a diagnostic device to screen for obstructive sleep apnea at home called the MediByte home sleep device. Patients wear this at night and then the results are passed to the dental team to see if patients are indeed dealing with this condition. If so, patients can then discuss the need for treatment with Drs. Mike Milligan and Marisa Milligan.
Treatment can help keep the airway open to allow patients to breathe throughout the night without obstruction. This is typically achieved with the Moses oral appliance. The Moses oral appliance is worn at night by those who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea to realign the jaw and to keep the tongue down, therefore opening the airway throughout the night for a comfortable and restful night’s sleep. This appliance is effective for most patients who suffer from mild to moderate cases of obstructive sleep apnea.
If you believe you may be suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, or have been told by your physician, contact Eastland Dental Center today to schedule an evaluation with Drs. Mike Milligan and Marisa Milligan. Also, you can learn more about the MediByte home sleep monitor and the Moses oral appliance therapy for treatment on our website. We encourage patients to take the time to learn about the harmful effects of obstructive sleep apnea and determine if treatment could improve their overall quality of life every day!
