Bloomington area dentist describes preventative dental care

Bloomington area patients are encouraged by the caring team at Eastland Dental Center to maintain preventative care. When patients are proactive about oral health and wellness, they enjoy the benefits of healthier smiles, longer. Proactive care includes scheduling a teeth cleaning at least twice a year.

Problems with an unhealthy smile

The primary issues that can develop when patients do not care properly for their mouths are periodontal (gum) disease and tooth decay (the formation of cavities). These conditions can ruin or damage the health of the smile in ways that can last many years. Cavities eat away at the structure of teeth, sometimes causing acute pain. Periodontal disease causes infection that can carry throughout the entire body, while causing irreversible damage to the bone and connective tissues that hold teeth in place. Drs. Mike Milligan and Marisa Milligan of Eastland Dental Center urge patients to avoid the development of these issues.

While patients are advised to brush after every meal and floss nightly, even the most diligent individuals may miss spots. This is why patients are urged to visit their dentist for regular cleanings and examination. The hygiene team uses specialized instruments and methods to remove food particles, plaque, and tarter that you cannot see or reach with home care. A final polish leaves teeth smooth and gleaming.
