Damaged teeth, often caused by cavities or some other injury to the tooth, can often result in painful problems over time. Cavities are usually the result of bacteria, sugary foods, and poor dental hygiene. If left untreated, cavities can continue to deteriorate a healthy tooth causing further damage that can harm surrounding teeth and ruin a beautiful smile. Dental crowns are often used by dentists to prevent further decay and to save teeth from further damage. At Eastland Dental Center, Drs. Mike Milligan and Marisa Milligan and their team offer the very best high-quality dental crown choices available to restore the beauty and health of your smile.
Perhaps you’ve searched for terms such as “dentist for crowns Bloomington” to find the best dental practice offering this service? Here at Eastland Dental Center, we have extensive experience in this area and provide many options, such as crowns to restore your smile. But, first, let’s take a closer look at crowns and bridges and what they do.
Dental crowns are tools that can make any tooth with a large cavity stronger. Crowns are also helpful in treating teeth with a minor fracture that continues to grow or a large older filling that compromises the strength of a tooth.
In some cases, Drs. Mike and Marisa might advise installing a dental bridge that will attach two or more crowns as a way of replacing missing teeth.
In every case, we ensure that our bridges and crowns are of the highest quality, with a look and feel that’s natural.
For teeth with smaller cavities, we would often treat the issue using a simple filling. However, for those suffering from larger cavities or more extensive breakage, we craft a custom-made crown to strengthen teeth that cannot stay in place on their own.
Crowns resemble small caps. Before installing a crown, we first clean out any decay within the tooth. Next, we smooth the damaged areas and cover them up with the crown. If necessary, we may need to strengthen the crown using pins or bonding to ensure it’s strong and give you full chewing strength.
As for bridges, these devices attach at least two crowns, allowing us to replace missing teeth. First, we put a crown on the tooth in front and another on the back. The false tooth is connected to both crowns, which creates the “bridge.”
While we usually recommend dental implant-supported crowns or bridges to replace missing teeth, there are a few cases in which traditional bridges and crowns can be a better option for our patients.
To find out the best choice for your situation, we will sit down and discuss your options and only recommend the dental service that makes the most sense for your unique situation.
